Rose Quartz A type of quartz

Sources

Crystals (UK) rose quartz comes from a number of locations: gem specimens, which can have a lilac hue and are generally translucent come from Madagascar, whereas our rock specimens are sourced from Brazil.

Origin

Rose quartz is found in sedimentary rocks such as sandstones and in beach and river deposits. Occasionally found in geodes (gas cavities).

Composition

Silicon dioxide - SiO2 - with traces of titanium oxide or manganese oxide.

Structure

Trigonal. Rose quartz is rarely found with terminations, due to the high manganese content. Samples that we have sold have small terminations but the vast majority of our rose quartz is ‘massive’.

Colour

Pale to mid pink. Generally opaque or translucent. Transparent rose quartz is very rare.

Our View

Rose quartz is one of the three major stones underpinning our company. We enjoy thinking up new uses for rose quartz and have been pleased to source carved Buddhas, Ganesh, palm stones, unusual animals and distinctive artefacts. However, perhaps the most pleasure is gained from selling a beautiful lump or a simple set pendant, though a large sphere with a star or a perfectly carved egg can be really inspirational.
